My neighbor tore down his backyard fence. To him it was just some old termite eaten, weathered looking wood. So he started tossing it.
To me, all I saw was wood I could make something with! I asked him if I could have it, and he was more than happy that I wanted to take it off his hands.
A picture of our fence... It's the same fence as my neighbors.
Before I get to the headboard... I created a mini fence for the chicken coop. TeeHee!
I just cut the 6 foot planks in half and nailed them to some 2x4s.
So anyways...
On with the headboard project. I washed everything down and let them dry in the sun for a few days. Then I sanded and sanded some more...
Then measured the width of our bed to get the exact width I wanted it to be. And put tape on the floor of that exact measurement. I then layed out the planks where I wanted them to be along that tape.
After sanding there is a lot of dust left over. And wiping it down was not enough since there are groves that still left dust. So I grabbed an old dry brush and brushed off as much as possible. Then started painting away with some white paint. Latex matte. In some areas I put a thicker amount on than other areas. After each plank was painted I wiped the paint away so as to look like a weathered look.
After the paint was dry I sealed it with a clear matte finish. And the finished result! TaDa!
I am so happy with the transformation this one little piece has made to my room.

What an AWESOME idea! This should be featured in a magazine. I am pinning this for inspiration in case anyone ever gives me a fence.
